Spring Fashion ‘17: Prints, Patterns, Embellishments and Color
March 24 2017 | Catherine Kelemen

Every season brings new trends and this spring is no different. Prepare yourself for a bright, colorful and playful season mixed with old classics that have a modern twist (think Kate Spade meets Burberry). Statement jewelry and emboldened women seem to be the theme this year, not to mention the trench coat is having a major comeback as fashion’s most versatile item. Wearing it classic or sleeveless, fitted or loose, modern fashion has revamped the definition of the trench coat. As for colors, prints and patterns – they’re everywhere, literally.

On the runway, Dior gives us a mixture of regal, whimsical, nymph-like couture with sheer dresses and statement shirts. It’s a bit of romance mixed with hardness, edge and feminine confidence. Meanwhile, Saint Laurent brings the edge full force with its sexy, provocative pieces that play a twist on the 80’s era. Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli bring on the colorful with floral prints and embellished patterns that draw the eye, while Fendi, Rag & Bone and Proenza Schouler show us the many ways in which stripes can make an outfit. With just these few examples, it’s pretty easy to decipher that this spring will be one full of prints, patterns, embellishments and color alongside classic and edgy pieces.

Even with all this overflowing variety of colors, patterns and styles, a commonly repeated element that is undoubtedly being seen throughout the fashion world right now comes down to one word: sheer. See-through pieces with peekaboo cutouts and bustier tops are a major runway trend, and it doesn’t look like it’ll being going away anytime soon. All in all, this spring’s fashion trends are saying good-bye to winter and hello to blue skies and sunny days.
